What's new in QuilLab

Every beta release, newest first. The app's What's New box shows the same notes.

q1.3.0November 1, 2026Latest

Major additions

What's new opens over the dashboard the first time QuilLab opens after a feature update or a major version. A fix update shows a small card in the corner instead. Settings, Updates has After an update to choose which you get, and Notes for this version opens What's new at any time.

Major changes

Updates no longer interrupt your writing. With Install updates automatically on, QuilLab checks as it opens and installs a waiting update before your work loads. An update it finds while you write waits as a card on the dashboard, where Install later picks a time or waits until you're away.

Minor additions

Right-clicking a widget and clicking its ⋯ button open the same menu, with the widget's own actions, a size grid, and Hide widget. The size grid previews a size as you point at it, and resizing a widget by its edge shows an outline that snaps to the grid. Clicking a goal reminder opens that goal, even when QuilLab was closed to the tray.

Minor changes

Minimize, Maximize, and Close fill the whole height of the title bar, and Close turns red when you point at it.

Bug fixes

The desktop app could load the dashboard from another QuilLab backend on the same computer and save that backend's projects over yours. It now waits for its own. Menus, tooltips, popovers, and dialogs no longer flicker as they open and close.

q1.2.0October 28, 2026

Major changes

Controls across the app have a new look. Checkboxes, toggles, sliders, fields, menus, tooltips, and keyboard keys no longer have outlines. A filled shape shows what's on, and one orange line marks the chosen option, the field you're typing in, and keyboard focus.

The manuscript toolbar fits narrow columns and never takes more than two rows.

Minor changes

Structure view, Paragraph Numbers, Highlight Focus, and Typewriter Mode share one menu under the eye button. While something saves or exports, its button types out the action instead of showing a spinning wheel. Anonymous usage statistics now count only installs and launches.

Bug fixes

Typing in the second or a later scene of a chapter could save that scene as empty for a moment. Edits there now always save.

q1.1.1September 30, 2026

Major additions

Quilliam can file many notes into folders, merge duplicates, tag, fill in sheet fields, and find and replace across the wiki in one step. Each job arrives as one card with a row per note, and one Apply runs it.

Find and replace across notes shows every match before anything changes, and never breaks links.

q1.1.0September 29, 2026

Major additions

Files in the wiki. Open every file in your universe as a gallery or a list, search by name or by the notes a file is on, and drop files anywhere to add them. Drag a file onto a note to make it the banner, the portrait, or an attachment.
