Terms of Service

Last updated August 2, 2026

The rules for using QuilLab's site, community features, and beta program, grouped so the related parts sit together and written to be actually readable.

The Agreement

The agreement and your account

1. Agreement to these terms

By creating an account or using QuilLab (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Who can use QuilLab

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use QuilLab.

3. Your account

You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Choose a username you are comfortable having attached publicly to comments and other community features.

Community

Content and conduct

4. Community conduct

If you post comments or otherwise take part in community features, you agree not to post content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, obscene, or spam. Comments pass through automated profanity and spam filtering and may be held for moderator review before appearing publicly.

Moderators may remove content, and may suspend or disable accounts, that violate these rules, at their discretion.

5. Your content

You own what you write in comments and other community posts. By posting, you grant QuilLab a license to display, store, and distribute that content as part of running the Service, for example by showing your comment under a blog post. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where a copy needs to persist briefly for backups or moderation records.

This section covers site content like comments, not your manuscripts. See the Copyright page for how QuilLab treats your writing.

Beta

The beta program

6. Beta program

QuilLab’s desktop app is in active development and offered to some users through a limited beta. By applying to and/or taking part in the beta, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Applying does not guarantee selection. Acceptance into the beta is at QuilLab’s discretion.
  • You will not redistribute, share, or publish beta builds of the app. Beta software is for your own use only.
  • Beta software is unstable. Consider backing up your writing outside the app; QuilLab is provided during the beta “as is,” and we are not responsible for data loss.

These are the same three commitments you agree to on the beta application form.

Liability

Warranties and liability

7. Warranties and limitation of liability

QuilLab is under active development, and we work hard to keep it stable, dependable, and worth trusting with your writing sessions. Like nearly all software, though, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without formal warranties of any kind, express or implied. That is standard language, and it means we cannot promise the Service will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, QuilLab is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data or writing.

Formal limitation-of-liability, governing-law, and dispute-resolution language is still to be finalized with counsel before launch. It is intentionally left out of this draft rather than guessed at.

Housekeeping

Changes and contact

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as QuilLab grows. We will update the date at the top of this page when we do; continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
