QuilLab collects very little, and this page explains all of it: what we store, why we store it, and how you stay in control.
The Basics
Who we are and your account
Who runs this
QuilLab is an independent, solo-developed project rather than a registered company at this time. If you have any question about this policy or your data, email quilliam@quillab.net.
Accounts
Signing in uses Firebase Authentication, a Google service, via either Google sign-in or email and password. When you create an account, we store your email address and the public username you choose, as is typical for most websites. This information is available only to us and Firebase.
Your Data
What we store
Beyond your account basics, QuilLab’s database (Firestore, also a Google/Firebase service) may hold:
- Your account profile: your username and, if you choose to fill it in, an optional writer profile (genre, experience level, the tools you currently write with).
- Subscription level and billing information: your subscription tier and its status. Payment details themselves are handled by the payment processor; what we keep is the record of which plan you are on. It lives in Firebase, which is a secure platform, and storing this kind of account information there is standard practice for companies with paid plans.
- Beta applications: platform, genre and project type, current writing tools, your written answers about why you want in and how often you expect to use QuilLab, your choices on the detailed-feedback and technical-data opt-ins, and a record of which consent checkboxes you agreed to.
- Wishlist signups: that you asked to be notified, and enough information to avoid counting you twice.
- Later features: once they ship, blog comments you post and votes you cast in polls will be stored the same way.
On the Site
Cookies, analytics, and ads
Cookies
We keep cookies to the minimum Firebase Authentication needs to keep you signed in between visits: auth and session persistence only. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not run third-party ad trackers on this site.
Analytics
QuilLab uses first-party, cookie-less analytics that we run ourselves. We count page visits and a few key actions (account signups, beta applications, and wishlist joins) as anonymous aggregate totals. We do not store IP addresses, we do not use third-party trackers, and nothing is collected for advertising.
Those counts live in our own Firebase database as plain numbers, such as how many people visited a page on a given day. They cannot be traced back to you.
No ads, no selling your data
QuilLab carries no advertising, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
Control
Sharing and deletion
Who else sees this data
Firebase (Google) is our infrastructure provider for authentication and storage, so your data passes through their systems as part of running the site, under their own security practices. We do not otherwise share your information with third parties except where required by law.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. You confirm the deletion and re-verify your credentials, and your account and its associated data are then permanently deleted.
