You own your words

Last updated August 2, 2026

Ownership here is simple. Everything you write belongs to you, and the stories QuilLab created for its site and demos belong to QuilLab.

Your Stuff

Your words are yours

QuilLab, the app, claims no ownership over anything you write in it. Not your manuscripts, not your outlines, not your wiki notes, not your goals.

By default, your manuscripts live on your own device. QuilLab is built local-first, so your writing is not uploaded anywhere just by using the editor. Any optional AI feature only ever sees the text you specifically choose to send it, and it will not remember that text anywhere except on your computer.

Comments and other things you post

If you post a comment or other community content on this site, you keep ownership of it. See the Terms of Service for the display license you grant us to show it on the site.

Nothing else on this page changes any of that. Everything below covers QuilLab’s own site and characters, not your stories.

Our Stuff

QuilLab’s site and stories

The QuilLab name, logo, and website design are © QuilLab, and so is Quilliam as a character: his personality, voice, backstory, and world, along with his appearance and likeness, which are copyrighted just like the rest of him. All rights reserved.

That includes “Drowning in Ink,” the town of Inkton, and the cast and lore built around them: original fiction created for QuilLab and used throughout this site and the app’s demos. It is not open for reuse, republishing, or repurposing as your own work without permission.

The sample content in the demos

The story, wiki notes, and chat scripts you see in QuilLab’s live demos on this site are drawn from “Drowning in Ink,” an original comedic detective serial we wrote to show the app in action. It is sample content owned by QuilLab, not a template for your writing, and not open-source.

For the record: blog posts attributed to Quilliam are written by human authors. The byline is a running joke, not an authorship claim. QuilLab does not publish AI-generated posts.

If you believe content on this site infringes your rights, or you have a question about what is and is not covered here, contact us at quilliam@quillab.net.
