Welcome to QuilLab

Transcribed by Sid, as dictated by Quilliam

Welcome to the QuilLab blog! Everything in this blog is written by a real human, even if Quilliam tries to take credit.

What is QuilLab?

QuilLab is a suite of tools for fiction authors like myself to help you and I plan, write, and organize our stories in a way which promotes continuity, verisimilitude, and quality writing. It started as a simple project to just build an app that I wanted to use, since I was annoyed by having to switch between Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Drive, my local files, Obsidian, and more in order to write my story. All are great resources, but I wanted something which synthesized the best of all worlds into one desktop app.

And so QuilLab was born.

It has tools like outliners, an actual editor (of course), sentence-level analytics, a comprehensive wiki, map tools, goal setting, AI-powered aids, and more. Unlike many programs these days which use AI to write your story in your stead, QuilLab uses it to help you scan your manuscript and notes without training or selling what it reads. It's more of an assistant than a replacement. See Our Approach for more about how we treat AI and what we think of it in relation to the craft of writing fiction.

What is the Blog For?

This blog is where we can post about a number of thing including but not constrained to:

  1. Update news, both for the app itself after launch and for the beta. This could also include updates to our policy or terms or other similar updates.
  2. Featuring features in the app. We may occasionally publish a blog post spotlighting a specific feature in the app.
  3. Commentary on current events in the fiction-writing sphere, publishing, and other relevant topics.
  4. Dev logs for transparent development journey posts and such. Real behind-the-scenes posts for new development.
  5. Community highlights to spotlight QuilLab authors or other creators.

There probably are many other categories we could post in, but these are some examples what you might expect to see here.

This blog will be updated from time to time and many, if not all, of these posts will be featured in a post across our social media accounts.

What to do...

If you feel like you're one of those people who actually want to write the story that's brewing inside their head, we welcome you to QuilLab. Feel free to create an account (account creation is free) and apply for the beta to test it before launch.

More news about beta testing and the inevitable launch of the app is coming, so stay tuned! Follow us on our socials for quick updates, with detailed versions available here (probably). Enjoy your writing!
